
Dancer Handbook
At Firefly Arts Dance Studio, we seek to bring glory to God by training students in multi-disciplinary dance arts with an eye on building godly character, relationships, and artistic and athletic skill so that they might shine as lights in the world.
Dance classes will include a combination of styles: ballet, jazz, and tap. Classes will be taught from a Christian world view, with a focus on developing godly character in the dancers above all else. Classes will focus on musicality and showmanship as well as dance technique and artistic skill.
Classes

Pre-Dance
(Ages 2.5-5)
Mondays 9:15-10 AM

Pre-Dance students will learn technique from ballet and jazz dance styles. Focus will be on participation in class, gross motor skills, listening to music and learning and developing basic dance skills.
Dancers under 3 yo must have a parent or guardian in the dance class and able to help the dancer if needed. All pre-dance students will need a parent or guardian on the premises during class time.
Combination Dance 1
(Ages 5-8)
Mondays 10-11 AM

Combo Dance 1 students will develop dance technique from ballet, jazz, and tap dance styles. Focus will be on developing dance technique, improving strength and flexibility, developing teamwork, and developing performance skills.
Parents/guardians may wait in the waiting area, watch inside the studio, or leave students at the studio during class. Parents must come into the studio to pick up their students after class. Students will not be permitted to leave the building without a parent or guardian.
Combination Dance 2
(Ages 8-12)
Mondays 11AM-12:30 PM

Combo Dance 2 students will develop dance technique from ballet, jazz, and tap dance styles. Focus will be on developing dance technique, improving strength and flexibility, developing teamwork, and developing performance skills. This class will focus on more intensive and difficult dance technique.
Parents/guardians may wait in the waiting area, watch inside the studio, or leave students at the studio during class. Parents must come into the studio to pick up their students after class. Students will not be permitted to leave the building without a parent or guardian.

Firefly Arts Dance Studio rents the studio during class times and is not affiliated with the Dance Vault. Please be respectful of the studio and obey all studio rules while there.

Dancewear
​
Female dancers should wear a black or pink leotard, white or pink tights, and may wear a tutu or skirt if desired. Pink ballet shoes are required. Combination Dance 1 and 2 students will wear black or tan tap and black or tan jazz shoes as well.

Male dancers should wear a solid color t-shirt, and athletic shorts. Black ballet shoes are required. Combination Dance 1 and 2 students will wear black tap and jazz shoes as well.

Tuition and Fees

Pre-Dance- $65/month
Combo 1-$80/month
Combo 2- $105/month
Families with more than one student will get at 10% discount on tuition, but not family registration, costume, or recital fees.

Tuition is due the first week of each month. There is also a $25/family registration fee due the first day of class only. Each month will include 3-5 weeks of dance classes. There is no refund for students missing class. If class is canceled by Firefly Arts for any reason, a make-up class will be scheduled, or there will be a partial refund for the canceled class.
Tuition may be paid via cash in an envelope with student's name on it, check made out to Ashley Lin, paypal (@fireflyartsdance) or Venmo (@Ashley-Lin-22). Please use friends and family options for electronic payment systems.
There will also be recital and costume fees due in the spring semester. These will total roughly $75/dancer for costume, and $50/family for recital fees. I will give more specific information for this in the spring semester.
Performance

Students will perform during the last class in December. Parents, family, and friends will be invited to join the students in class that day to see examples of what they have learned during the semester. There will be no extra costume or recital fees for this performance.

A spring recital will take place in May. Students will perform several original pieces during this recital. Recital details will be given to families during the spring semester. A recital and costume fee will be collected in the spring semester to cover the costs of this recital. These will be roughly $75/dancer for costume and $50/family for recital fee. Students will get to keep their recital costumes.
